We have been away from home and here in Reunion for four days now and it feels like it has been longer... The Rotarians in Reunion has been extremely welcoming to us and it feels like we have known them for a long time.
Yesterday was quite an eventful day with so much happening. The highlight of the day that won hands down was... A flight over the active volcanoe (Piton de la Fournaise) that has been in the news over the last few weeks... courtesy of Rotary Reunion! Merci bou cou!
Here's some photos of what we saw from the air. Unbelievable sights...

In the morning we also had the opportunity to visit the Centre de la Ressource, which is a school that cater for visual and hearing impaired children, much like the school she works with at home in Worcester (Nuwehoop School). We had the privilege of sitting in on some of the classes and Helmien even got to practise some of her sign language!
The kids were amazing and the teachers are doing a great job in assisting them in living their lives as fully engaged citizens. Below is some of of the pics.

And if you did not know it... Louis Braille was French - the guy who invented the reading and writing system that visually impaired and blind people use!
At the end of the day we did our first official presentation on Rotary district 9350 and ourselves for the club of St Denis. The absence of a digital data projector for our powerpoint show made it a tad bit challenging... We were awesome nonetheless! This piccie shows us in action!

An eventful day on the island... we are going strong and on Friday Tania will join us here in Reunion (we had complications with her ticket...)
So come back tomorrow and see more of our adventures and learnings!
warm greetings to you all!
Au revoir!
The Team
